To unlock the data file, a combination of the master password, algorithm type, and key size is used. The app does not store any hints about the encryption method employed.
Another layer of security is provided by a randomly generated "salt" combined with your master password. This helps protect against offline dictionary attacks.
The 512-bit "salt" and your master password are used to create the key that unlocks the data file. This key is then hashed 1000 times by SHA-256, making it difficult for brute force attacks to succeed.
In the event of multiple unsuccessful unlock attempts, the app supports auto destruction of the data file.
